Dear Friends,

Here is your Summer edition of our United Benefice Magazine, for July and August, which is certainly one of our busiest magazines to date. June was definitely a busy month, locally, and we are pleased to share reports from recent special occasions, including our United Benefice Confirmation Service, St Leonard’s Afternoon Tea at Balderstone,  Samlesbury’s Garden Party, the 80th Anniversary of D-Day Beacon Lightings and the Bicentenary Celebration of Mellor Brook Community Centre.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed news items and photos, particularly to those who have recently been appointed to key roles in our United Benefice. Thank you to Ryan (our new churchwarden at Balderstone), Lloyd (our new churchwarden at Mellor) and Emily (our new Rose Queen at Samlesbury), who have all kindly written introductions to share with you all. Thank you also to one of our recent wedding couples, who have shared a thank you and some photos. It is always lovely to be able to add a ‘Let’s Celebrate’ section to our magazine with news of baptisms or weddings.

Balderstone’s Open Garden Month is currently in full swing. If anyone would like to write a few words of thanks to any of our hosts for an event you have particularly enjoyed, or send in a photo or two, we would love to hear from you and would gladly include these in our next edition.

Looking ahead, our diary dates page lists dates and times of upcoming special services and events for July, August and September. These include:

  • A Sports Sundae Service at Mellor St Mary CE Primary School
  • St Mary’s Annual Church Barbecue at Myre Ash House
  • A Scarecrow Festival being organised by Mellor Village Hall
  • Mellor Village Show
  • A Charity Coffee Morning at Samlesbury War Memorial Hall
  • A Talk about Samlesbury Hall at St Leonard the Less Church, Samlesbury
  • A Rose Queen Service at St Mary’s Church, Mellor
Further details of many of the above can be found either in our event posters supplement or in articles within the magazine.

Following a Summer break, the next edition of your United Benefice Magazine will be the September edition. Please can all contributions for this edition be emailed by the deadline of Wednesday 28th August. Thank you.

To keep fully up to date, please continue to follow our Facebook pages:

Thanks again for all your contributions to this month’s busy edition,
