Dear Friends,

Please find attached your June edition of our United Benefice Magazine, which is once again bursting with news from both our United Benefice Churches and the wider community.

Can you please donate an item of food or drink to our Summer Afternoon Tea Party Raffle Hampers at St Leonard’s, Balderstone? Can you knit or crochet a heart for the bereaved? Can you help our new local librarian with the history of Mellor Library? If you can, then please browse this month’s magazine for how to help.

Early Summer is certainly a busy time across our United Benefice. In fact, during June, there is an opportunity to attend three events within twenty-nine hours, as we look forward to Mellor St Mary School Summer Gala, Samlesbury St Leonard the Less Garden Party and St Leonard’s Summer Fun Night at Balderstone Primary School.

June’s magazine contains recent reports and photos from Mothers’ Union Whalley Deanery Festival, Walking Day at St Leonard’s Balderstone, The Last Night of Mellor Proms and Balderstone Forest Church. Meanwhile, this month’s event posters supplement gives further details of all the following, upcoming events:

  • The Pop-Up Café at Mellor Village Hall (1st June)
  • A New Monthly Lego Club at Mellor Library (1st June)
  • Samlesbury Lunch Club (14th June)
  • Samlesbury Community Litter Pick (15th June)
  • Balderstone Summer Afternoon Tea Party (15th June)
  • St Leonard’s Church Open Garden Month (Dates and Programme Details to follow soon)
  • Little Steps Free Family Sessions for Children aged 2 – 5 at Mellor Library (19th June)
  • Mellor Brook Community Centre 200 Year Anniversary Celebration (22nd June)
  • Little Angels (25th June)
  • Mellor St Mary School Summer Gala (28th June)
  • Samlesbury St Leonard the Less Garden Party (29th June)
  • St Leonard’s Summer Fun Night at Balderstone Primary School (29th June)
  • Sports Sundae Service at Mellor St Mary CE Primary School (7th July)

In our advert supplements, we are very pleased to welcome a brand new advertiser, Homewise Society. Homewise is a local charity and home improvement agency, which can provide a handyperson for small home repair work.

This month, we also thank both of the following local businesses, who have renewed their adverts for a further twelve months: Bowland Vets, with an updated advert for 2024, and Hatha Yoga Classes, which take place at St Mary’s School, Mellor.

Keely Robertson has also amended her advert, this month, to invite you to a Crochet Summer Flower Wreath Workshop, taking place at Whalley Abbey from 9:30am to 12:30pm on Saturday 1st June.

Please note that the next edition of your United Benefice Magazine will be a Summer edition for both the months of July and August. Therefore, if you have any activities you wish to share and promote, which will be taking place in either July or August, please email your magazine contributions by Sunday 30th June.

We aim to share our Summer United Benefice Magazine with you during the first week in July. Following the Summer edition, the next magazine will be the September edition, which should, hopefully, reach you just before the end of August.

As always, please continue to follow our Facebook pages:

Here’s hoping you can enjoy reading this month’s magazine in some Summer sunshine,
