Dear Friends,

We are very pleased to share with you the May edition of our United Benefice Magazine. As always, we have news from so many areas of our United Benefice and we thank all our regular contributors for their articles. This month’s edition also includes news from Blackburn Cathedral, a thank you from Canon Pam Daunton, who has recently completed 25 years as a Licensed Lay Minister, and an introduction from Angela Preedy, our new Mellor Library Officer.

There is lots to look forward to across May and June, including Balderstone’s Walking Day and Summer Afternoon Tea Party, The Last Night of Mellor Proms and Samlesbury’s Garden Party.

Both the magazine and our event posters supplement have details of these and other events, including:

  • A Pop-Up Café at Mellor Village Hall (4th May)
  • Balderstone Walking Day (11th May)
  • Little Steps Free Family Sessions for Children aged 2 – 5 at Mellor Library (15th May)
  • Samlesbury Community Litter Pick (18th May)
  • Little Angels (21st May)
  • The Annual Meeting Of Mellor Parishioners (21st May)
  • The Last Night Of Mellor Proms (24th May)
  • Samlesbury Lunch Club (14th June)
  • Balderstone Summer Afternoon Tea Party (15th June)
  • The 200 Year Anniversary Celebration of Mellor Brook Community Centre (22nd June)
  • Our United Benefice Confirmation Service (23rd June)
  • FOSMS Summer Gala (28th June)

Preston Lady Farmers, who are well known for being excellent bakers, also invite you to Afternoon Tea, for just £10, at Samlesbury War Memorial Hall at 2:00pm on Tuesday 7th May.

Please support those who advertise with us in our two advert supplements. This month, we thank the following local businesses, who have recently renewed their adverts for a further twelve months:

  • Community Ukes
  • Heritage Café at Samlesbury Hall
  • N & T Construction
  • North West Autocare
  • Ribble Home Surveys

Please note that Mad Cow’s Catering have also amended their advert to update their opening hours.

Please can all contributions for June’s magazine be emailed by the deadline of Tuesday, 28th May. If you attend and enjoy any services, groups or social activities, during May, and would like to send in a paragraph of thanks, or share some photos, we would be delighted to hear from you.

As always, please continue to follow our Facebook pages:

Best wishes and happy reading,
